Due to the fact that there is no school on Thursday and Friday this week, we will have Percussion class on Wednesday this week.

Here are the currently scheduled performances for the WV Beginning Bands.

December 14 - WVHS Auditorium- 7pm - Combined Holiday Concert with WVHS Bands
May 8 - Jr. Lilac Parade -
May 26 - All District Band Concert - WVHS Main Events Gym - 7pm

We are also working on getting the band students to perform in their own schools sometime in January. More info as it becomes available.

Due to district scheduling and transportation issues, we have changed the Beginning Band Schedule. Until further notice, each student now come to Band twice a week. Please see the Director's Notes at left.

Also, we plan to have the Band attendance up on Skyward in the next few days, so that parents and teachers can check student's attendance online.

Dear Parents:

With the start of Beginning Band just a few days away, we wanted to pass on some final information that will hopefully answer your questions:

INSTRUMENT PROCUREMENT – The Rental Night on September 15 was a big success. If you missed it, but would still like to order instruments from Ted Brown Music, or if you need help finding an instrument, please Contact Mr. Bosch at Centennial Middle School - 922-5482 (Ext. 2309), or email kyle.bosch@wvsd.com. Information on other local rental stores is also available on request.

BAND METHOD BOOK – We will be using the “Essential Elements 2000” Band Method Book.
Cost is $9.50 (tax included) for all instruments except Percussion which is $16.00 (tax included) – all come with a CD, and a DVD.

BUS TRANSPORTATION TO BAND – You may choose to have your child ride your WVHS neighborhood bus to WVHS in the morning OR you may choose to drop-off your child at WVHS. In either case, be assured that our staff will meet your child each day to make sure they arrive in the Band Room. Students riding the bus or riding in a private vehicle will be dropped-off on Vista and enter the north doors by the new gym. We will also make sure each student gets on the proper bus for the trip to their neighborhood school after Band each morning.

BUS TRANSPORTATION AFTER BAND
After Band is over each day, students simply catch the bus listed below to go to their elementary schools. They arrive before school starts, so they should not miss any class time. Here are the Bus numbers for the return trip to each school each day:

Monday (8:00 – 8:45 AM): Full Band (Everybody)
Tuesday (8:00 – 8:45 AM): Flutes, Clarinets
Wednesday – (8:00 – 8:45 AM): Trumpets, Trombones (Non-late start days @ WVHS)
Thursday (8:00 – 8:45 AM): Bells, Drums
Friday (8:00 – 8:45 AM): Full Band (Everybody)

Please bring your Registration Form to your first day of Band beginning Monday, September 21 (attached).

(FIRST DAY OF BAND IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21 BEGINNING AT 8:00 AM – WE WILL PLAY, BUT EVERY BAND STUDENT SHOULD ATTEND, EVEN IF THEY DON’T HAVE AN INSTRUMENT YET)

BREAKFAST: Since students will arrive at their elementary schools after breakfast is served, they are allowed to have breakfast at WVHS in the Cafeteria before Band Class. We will arrange supervision in the Cafeteria as needed, and we ask that the students eat quickly so that they will not miss Band time.

BAND WEBSITE: This year, we have a Beginning Band Website that will have just about all the information you will need about schedules, performances, and other activities related to Band. Please visit the site often, as we will be adding content as we get the information. This will be our primary method of giving out information. However, we will also print hard copies of all information for those that are not currently able to access the internet.

PERFORMANCES: We are in the process of determining all of the performances for the year. These will be posted/distributed as soon as it is finalized. It is also our intention to have a very low cost band t-shirt designed that each student will have for our performances.

Welcome to the new school year! Please check this site often, as this will be the primary method of giving out information on West Valley Beginning Bands. Final details are being worked out for all 5th graders (and City School students from other grades who are interested) to try out instruments. Soon, we will also have information about the rental night, where parents can acquire quality instruments for the children to use in Band.

Mr. Loucks is traveling to the schools this week to give out information about the Beginning Band.

Here is some info about Beginning Band:
When: Each student attends twice a week, depending on which instrument they play. Band class goes from 8:00-8:45am.
Where: West Valley School Band Room
Who: Team taught by Mr. Jim Loucks (WVHS), and Mr. Kyle Bosch (CMS)
How: Students can take buses to WVHS, and then take buses to their regular school after Band. They will not miss any class time!
